About the RIM Council

 This is a test

The RIM Council draws its name from the practice of Responsible Information Management, an ethics-based framework and long-term strategy for managing personal and sensitive employee, customer and business information.

The RIM Council is a select group of privacy, security and information management leaders from multinational corporations who are champions within their various industries on issues involving privacy and data protection. Diversity in RIM Council membership is important because it ensures varied perspectives on the development of the RIM framework and related programs. Ultimately, RIM will not work unless it is applicable to a wide group of business and government organizations. Hence, the focus of our work is always cross-industry. In addition, the RIM Council’s focus is never standard setting.

The RIM Council’s tactical goals are to develop an ethics-based framework for advancing privacy and data protection practices within complex organizations. This includes a number of activities planned for the coming year:

  • Strategic Information Governance Working Group
  • Making the Business Case for Privacy Special Project
  • RIM College Courses on Blogging, Web 2.0, Encryption and Managing the Risk of Lost Laptops
  • Development of Metrics that focus on the measurement of Vendor Privacy and Data Protection
  • Project management tools for controlling an enterprise rollout of the RIM assessment, monitoring and education programs.
  • Procedures for controlling the sharing of data with outside vendors, contractors and other third parties for commercial reasons.

RIM Council activities operate under strict confidentiality. Sponsorship revenues from participating Council companies provide funding for our core activities. For more information about joining the RIM Council, please call Susan Jayson at 800.877.3118 or email susan@ponemon.org.
